Looking to further your own outdoor education?

While you can learn a lot from online resources, taking an in person course is the best way to prepare yourself for the many risks that come along with your favorite outdoor endeavors. Below are some great resources for finding courses in your area.

Wilderness First Aid Courses

The single best resource for finding Wilderness First Aid courses or Wilderness First Responder courses in your area is the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS)

Courses are often held at REI stores, universities, community centers or other local outfitters

Avalanche Education

The American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) publishes the following list of most available courses in the United States.

Climbing Instruction

The best way to gain climbing knowledge is to inquire about available courses at your local gym. Most gyms offer a range of courses, from basic belaying instruction to advanced outdoor skills courses. Taking a course is also a great way to meet climbing partners! If you’re looking to meet new partners, we also recommend Mountain Project’s “partner finder” feature
